{BRAINSPOTTING}
Brainspotting, developed by Dr. David Grande in 2003, is a brain based therapy evolving from EMDR. Brainspotting is a remarkable and revolutionary new therapy which focuses on the deeper brain processes. This approach creates rapid and effective change mentally, emotionally and physically and is considered a cutting edge counseling modality.
Where you look affects how you feel, therefore depending where you are looking, you will experience things differently. A Brainspot is the eye position that is directly correlated to the energetic and emotional activation of stored emotional material in the brain. As you tune into something you feel strongly about, the difference between where you look will be more pronounced, thus allowing the client and counselor to identify a brain spot. Brainspotting connects with the body’s innate self-scanning ability to process and release emotional systems that are frozen in more primitive survival modes.
Brainspotting is a body focused therapeutic modality in which the emotional distress will be located in the body through the client’s felt sense. The Brainspotting process seems to stimulate the body’s inherent ability to heal itself from past pain and trauma, often out reach by the conscious mind and it’s limited cognitive/language abilities. When used with other therapeutic modalities, Brainspotting can be a useful tool for accessing, diagnosing and treating a variety of somatic and emotionally based conditions, leading to rapid resolution of psychological and physical distress and enhancing quality of life.
